An important goal of the 2014 NAIFA Congressional Conference will be to continue educating members of Congress on the importance of life insurance and annuities to the financial security of 75 million American families.
“If you have any doubt at all about the value of grassroots advocacy, look no further than the fact that the recently released Camp tax reform plan does not propose a new tax on life insurance or annuity inside buildup or on the benefits paid at the death of the insured to the beneficiary,” said NAIFA President John Nichols. “We credit this success to NAIFA’s advocacy including the overwhelming attendance at the 2013 Congressional Conference.”
The Camp plan does contain some seriously adverse proposals, however. So does the FY 2015 Obama budget proposal. Where the two plans overlap – such as on business use of life insurance – the risk is very high and the damage, if the proposals are enacted, would be extensive.
Your colleagues, and perhaps most importantly, your clients, really need you to renew your commitment, involvement and engagement in this long-running battle to protect our products. Our issues are complex. We need you – as a constituent – to educate and persuade your members of Congress to reject these tax proposals, which will hurt the families and businesses that rely on life insurance, annuities, retirement savings and employee benefits to protect their financial security.
The NAIFA Congressional Conference will take place May 20-21, 2014, in Washington, D.C. Register today!
