Members of Congress are packing their bags in anticipation of their upcoming recess, which begins on Tuesday. Throughout August and early September, they will be in their home districts away from their colleagues and the professional lobbyist they meet with every day in Washington.
This presents a great opportunity for NAIFA members to meet with their representatives and senators and discuss the importance of life insurance, annuities, qualified retirement plans and key employee benefits to providing a basic financial safety net for consumers.
NAIFA is promoting the August Walk-In as an important follow-up to our April Congressional Conference meetings in Washington. NAIFA encourages every member to take part in the Walk-In, which runs from August 6 to September 5.
The Walk-In will also provide a terrific opportunity to demonstrate to agents and advisors who are not already members of NAIFA just what NAIFA is all about – advocacy. Non-NAIFA members should be encouraged to accompany NAIFA members on the Walk-In and, ultimately, to join our association once they have seen NAIFA’s amazing advocacy efforts in operation.
This all-hands-on-deck Walk-In will be a huge undertaking and require a lot of clear communication and coordination with everyone involved. NAIFA members are urged to contact their APIC Federal Coordinator (or designee) to determine the member of Congress with whom they will meet. The Federal Coordinators alone have the responsibility of setting up the appointments with the senators and representatives.
More information and materials on the legislative issues important to NAIFA members are on the NAIFA Walk-In web page.
